The modern era of smartphone is dominated by Android and iOS, which creates a very tough position for exclusive ones such as the BlackBerry OS. However there are still many loyal BlackBerry users who prefer their simple and light OS over more functional ones. Fortunately for them BlackBerry is fighting on and has just announced more details about their upcoming BlackBerry OS 10.1 update, some of the notable new additions in this new update are features such as HDR photos , APN editor, new and improved notification system, ability to send PIN to PIN messages, and finally the paste support for their dial pad. Some other minor improvements include better Camera performance, improved typing and better battery performance. BlackBerry users have been asking for most of these features for a long time and hopefully this new update will be enough to keep them from switching to another manufacturer. One of the reasons that BlackBerry owners are still loyal to the manufacturer is their superior support, but if BlackBerry keeps delaying them , then this might just turn out to be the end of BlackBerry as we know it.
Samsung’s Galaxy S4 has been the most well marketed phone so far in 2013, it achieved the highest interest out of any other smartphone , easily beating the likes of Sony Xperia Z and HTC ONE. Naturally this indicates towards a very high sales rate, if not the highest of them all and this automatically makes it the must have smartphone for every carrier. Unsurprisingly AT&T is the first to take a legitimate step and has announced that they will start shipping the Samsung Galaxy S4 from April 23. As a matter of fact the Samsung Galaxy S4 is already available for pre order via AT&T’s official website with the new date added to the mix. The price remains the same at approximately $639.99 and there are no extra details added yet. However seeing how frequently the availability dates are changing, we suggest our beloved reads not to take anything for granted and just see how thing turn out.
Recently Viber has grown a lot in popularity and has become the must have application for almost all platforms. Though most of the other platforms have had Viber for quite a while now, BlackBerry OS was among the unfortunate few that didn’t have the privilege of experiences Viber. However after releasing the application in major platforms such Android and iOS , Viber has finally started to pay some attention the Blackberry OS and as a result has finally launched the application for BlackBerry OS 5 and OS 7. Unfortunately BlackBerry OS will not receive this application due to technical problems, regardless the major reason why BlackBerry’s older OS are getting all the attention all of a sudden lies in their registration rates, as it turns out almost 15 thousand registrations are made through BlackBerry Smartphones per day, whic leads to an estimate 175 million users (globally) that are using Viber as their VoIP across all major platforms. This also means Viber has become one of the most successful VoIP of all time and are soon catching up to Skype which currently holds the number 1 VoIP spot, but if things keep going the way they have, it won’t be long before Viber dethrones Skype as the leading VoIP on mobile platforms. Also keep in mind Viber has a technical advantage over Skype as it can run silently without interrupting your daily work making it a better VoIP overall, so there is a high possibility that Skype will soon lose out to Viber unless they do something innovative.
Usually low priced smartphones are not considered as a viable threat against the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S4, however it seems Xiaomi is here to change that, recently they announced another version of their existing Xiaomi which packs a Snapdragon 600 chipset as opposed to the S4 Pro in the alternative version. The quad –core Krait 300 CPU in this new version is clocked to an impressive 1.7 GHz which logically is still slower than Samsung Galaxy S3’s 1.9 GHz Krait 300 CPU. But surprisingly that’s not the case, not only it beats the Samsung Galaxy S4, it does it by quite a big margin! This is impressive to say the least. It scored an astounding 25,913 on AnTuTu benchmark beating the much higher clocked Samsung Galaxy S4 with ease.
The Xiaomi MI-S2 will be available in two models, a 16 gigabyte model with an 8 megapixel camera priced at $322 and a 32 gigabyte model with a 13 megapixel camera priced at $370. This is much lower than the Samsung Galaxy S4 or any other major flagship right now. Other specifications such as the 4.3 inch 720p display, 2 gigabytes of RAM and 2000mAh are the same on both versions. As for the operating system, unlike most smartphones the Xiaomi MI-S2 runs on MIUI custom Android Rom which may explain why it was able to surpass the Samsung Galaxy S4 despite being under clocked. Regardless the new Xiaomi MI-S2 is shaping up to be an awesome device that provides amazing performance at a reasonable price for the Chinese market.
It seems that the Galaxy Mega 5.8 was not the only phone to come out of Samsung’s new mega series, SamMobile leaked the specifications of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 Phablet and as it turns out the name really does stand the screen size. Like the name suggest that Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 will pack a massive 6.3 inch PLS display that will have a resolution of 1920 x 1080, under the hood you will find a 1.7 GHz dual-core CPU accompanied by 1.5 gigabytes of RAM. As for the chipset, it still remains a mystery, but we personally think that it may sports Samsung’s very own Exynos 5250 chipset. As for your imaging needs the Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 will sport an 8 megapixel primary camera along with a 2 megapixel secondary camera that is intended to be used for attending video calls. The Galaxy Mega 6.3 will also offer the latest connectivity options such as Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi 80211 a/b/g/n and GPS.
Samsung upcoming Phablet will measure approximately 167.6 x 88 x 7.8 mm, which means that despite being a much larger device it will have the same thickness as the Samsung Galaxy S4 and the 3200mAh batter should be enough to keep the giant up and running. However it is yet to be revealed which Android Version this device will ship with, but given the fact that it’s a new device there is a chance it will ship directly with Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean instead of the older versions.
Samsung has been really busy for the past few weeks, launching multiple smartphones including their new flagship the Galaxy S4. Since securing their position as the best Android Smartphone manufacturer, they have been really focused and are releasing smartphones for all price ranges imaginable. If that wasn’t enough there were countless marketing leaks that gave away many of their upcoming smartphones, one of them was the Samsung Galaxy Mega and as it turns out the source was legitimate after all. According to a report from SamMobile, the Samsung Galaxy Mega is supposed to be mid-high end device that will sit right in the sweet spot between elite and cheap. The Samsung Galaxy Mega 5.8 will be code named GT-I9152 and will sport two SIM slots, meaning that it’s going to be a Dual-SIM Phablet. Like the name suggests the Galaxy Mega will be sporting a gigantic 5.8 inch display with a resolution of 960 x 540, which is relatively standard for a mid end Phablet. The dimension is also typical at 164 x 83.3 x 9.6 mm. Under the hood you will find a 1.4 GHz Dual-Core processor accompanied by 1.5 gigabytes of ram, which should go great with Androids 4.12 Jelly Bean. For you imaging needs you get a primary 8 megapixel camera and a 2 megapixel front camera for video calling. It will also provide the latest connectivity options such as Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi 80211 a/b/g/n and GPS support, while the power necessary to run this Phablet will be coming from an impressive 2600mAh battery. Overall we think Samsung is on its way to produce yet another successful device, but will our prediction come true? Only time can tell.
T-Mobile Galaxy S2 users have always been a little disappointed with their update service, back in 2011 when the device was first launched by T-Mobile it was running Android 2.3 Gingerbread ! And if that wasn’t disappointing enough, it did not receive any update at all until last June when it was updated to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Since then there was no sign of any upcoming updates until today, also this will be the first time that T-Mobiles Samsung Galaxy S2 will go through a full make over as none of the previous updates changed the user interface. This new update will update the existing Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich to Android version to 4.1.2 Jelly Bean. After you have installed the new update for you Samsung Galaxy S2, the user interface will be completely changed and will sport a look similar to the Samsung Galaxy S3’s user interface. Obviously this also means that the T-Mobile Galaxy S2 will finally experience Project Butter, which makes the overall experience of using the Android operating system much smoother and makes lag almost nonexistent. Not to mention that the Jelly Bean update will also offer multiple other tweaks such as Better Camera performance, longer battery life, improved lock screen functionality and improved notifications. Other features include Samsung’s very own Pop-up Play, Smart Stay along with two new home screen modes.
T-Mobile’s Galaxy S2 users will be receiving the 4.1.2 Jelly Bean update via OTA, the users must have good amount of charge and strong Wi-Fi signal as this update is fairly large and will take some to be installed. However if you don’t prefer the OTA method you can choose to download the update via Samsung KIES , though keep in mind that the update is not yet available for all locations and may take a few days to reach all T-Mobile users.
LG’s new flagship smartphone the LG Optimus G Pro has already made quite an impression in its home country Korea. Recently LG released an official statement stating that their new Smartphone/Phablet has already surpassed half a million sales in only 40 days, which given the Korean market state is nothing short of amazing. LG’s new flagship smartphone sports a gigantic 5.5 inch display that is based on the True HD IPS Plus technology. It features a 1.7 GHz Krait 300 Quad-Core processor that is accompanied by 2 gigabytes of Ram. For you imaging needs the LG Optimus G Pro offers a 13 megapixel primary camera and a 2.1 megapixel front facing camera. As for storage you get 32 GB internal memory along with a microSD slot that supports 64 gigabytes of memory. Lastly the LG’s new flagship device runs on Androids 4.1.2 Jelly Bean is powered by an impressive 3,140 mAh battery.
As great as the spec sheet looks, the LG Optimus G Pro still has a very tough road ahead, especially with the likes of Samsung Galaxy S4, Sony Xperia Z and HTC One standing in its way. However LG seems to be marketing their new device very well which has lead to them to achieving this impressive milestone, what LG did was offer a demo of sorts to its potential customers by allowing them to try out the device for a period of 30 days ! Now this strategy does two things, firstly it lets the customer to get used to the bigger size and new interface, and secondly it allows them to develop a fondness towards the phone which naturally leads the customers to actually buying the phone at the end of the trial.
The New LG Optimus G Pro is not yet available worldwide, but LG promises that they will soon have enough units to meet the global demand.
Samsung has been on a roll latterly, they have finally established themselves as the global leader in smartphone manufacturing and are now simply riding the momentum in order to hold on to this position. According to SamMobile, Samsung is working a new range of smartphones that will bear the name ‘Samsung Galaxy Mega’ similar to their current ‘Galaxy S’ series. What is more exciting is that the source suggests that Samsung will be introducing not one but two devices that will belong to the new Galaxy Mega Series. One of them will be the Samsung Galaxy Mega 5.8 (GT-I9152), which is going to be a Duos smartphone based on the latest Android OS. The other ‘Samsung Galaxy Mega’ device is going to be called the Galaxy Mega 6.3 (GT-I9200). According to SamMobile the name suggest towards a screen size, which means the Samsung Galaxy Mega 5.8 will sport huge 5.8 inch display and the Galaxy Mega 6.3 will sport an even bigger 6.3 inch display. This reminds us that Samsung has hinted towards upcoming smartphones with similarly sized displays such as the Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy Grand 2, but then again none of those rumours have turned into reality yet. SamMobile also mentioned the colour options for these smartphones, both of them will be available in Samsungs traditional black and white. The Galaxy Mega 5.8 is said to be released at the end of May, while its bigger brother will be out in mid June.
Now as promising as these details sound, you must realize that these details are not yet official, so until they are proved to be 100% legitimate do not take it for granted.
Samsung has always been really generous when it comes to updates, they regularly provide updates/fixes etc for their customer which is one of the reasons why Samsung users are so much more happier than others. According to the official statement from Samsung this Android 4.1.2 (build JZ054K) Jelly bean update for the Galaxy Ace 2 comes with improved notifications, overall better performance, improved battery life and a tweaked interface that makes TouchWiz more efficient than ever before. Current the update is available in only a few regions and will take some time to be available globally. You can receive this update via Samsung’s KIES software for PC or over the air directly to your phone, though keep in mind that there has been no official confirmation on which regions will be getting the update and which won’t neither is there any details about how long till it goes global, so if you cannot access the update yet it’s probably because your region is among the ones that haven’t received it yet. Though Samsung assured us that they are trying their best to roll out the update globally and it will be available for download on all the major regions soon.
